Kyle Garland Discusses Being Selected To Select Team Traveling To Cuba


Germantown Academy's Kyle Garland has been dazzling track fans all year. The junior won two golds at the PTFCA Indoor State Championships and a second place medal. His versatility was no secret, but at New Balance Nationals Indoor, Garland took home a distant first in the pentathlon, scoring an incredible 4,150 points for the win.

At Wednesday's Rustin Invitational in West Chester, Garland took first in the 110 meter hurdles and placed third in the 200 meters and fifth in the shot put. Last month, Garland learned he was selected to represent Team NSAF at the Caribbean Scholastic Invitational to be held on May 26-28 in Havana, Cuba.

Garland will contest the decathlon and the 4x400 meter relay in Cuba. Last year, he placed sixth at New Balance Nationals Outdoor in the event, scoring 6,351 points. At the AAU Junior Olympics in humble, Texas, Garland scored 6,823 points to win the 15-16 age group in the decathlon.
